Social Concerns Ministry
The Social Concerns Ministry of Tamil Methodist Church Kuala Lumpur is a community based ministry that aims to reach out to the poor, needy and less fortunate amongst us and particularly within our local Indian Community. We try to help transform the lives of such people by befriending them and providing support and care through various forms of assistance.
Our ministries include the Learning Centre which runs weekly on Saturday mornings wherein we offer free tutoring mainly in English and Maths to school going children between the ages of 6 to 17. As part of the Learning Centre Curriculum, “Lifestyle Classes” are conducted for the purpose of imparting good morals and Christian values mainly to the older school children, and it prepares those nearing completion of school with practical knowledge. Through this programme, we provide encouragement and motivation to these children so that they aspire to become successful members of our society.
The Social Concerns Ministry of Tamil Methodist Church Kuala Lumpur is a community based ministry that aims to reach out to the poor, needy and less fortunate amongst us and particularly within our local Indian Community.
It is a ministry modelled on Christ’s call to love our neighbours as ourselves, to be responsible stewards of our God given gifts and talents and to tend to the poor, vulnerable, prisoners and strangers in our land wherever and whenever we are able, for as it is written in Matthew 25:40:
“Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me”.
Saturdays 10am to 12.30pm
We provide free tutoring in English and Maths for underprivileged children between the ages of 6 to 17.
Saturdays 1.30 to 3pm
Extra Co-Curriculum activities, Computer classes, Sports Ministry-Football training, Lifestyle & Mentoring sessions for older children.
We provide counselling, guidance and assistance and to various people, single mothers, troubled individuals and/or distressed families and sometimes extend financial assistance to those who qualify for it.
Other Social Concerns ministries include attending to walk-ins – refugees/migrant workers requiring emergency assistance, as and when needed. We have also recently commenced Prisons Ministry under Malaysian Care.
The harvest is indeed plentiful but the workers few. Every one of us can make a difference in this meaningful ministry. We invite you to join us in this wonderful opportunity to serve our Lord.
